Gautam Gambhir says India must replace Shreyas Iyer in the ODI World Cup squad.
Former India opener Gautam Gambhir questioned the National Cricket Academy (NCA)’s decision to drop Shreyas Iyer and questioned the middle-order batsman’s place in the ODI World Cup squad.
Speaking to Star Sports, Gambhir said, “This is a problem. You go on the field for a long time, then you come back to the Asian Cup, you play one match and then it is not good again.”
“From now on, I don’t think the management of this team will choose to play him in the main match.
“You will see in the next few days that Iyer will not go. He will be part of the World Cup team and someone will replace him. You have to go to the World Cup with healthy players.
“Performance is another thing. Imagine a player gets injured due to a stomach ailment or any other reason, then you can’t find a replacement.
“So if Ayer doesn’t adapt, the world will be injured because he got injured in this match and played in the cup. It will be difficult for him to be a part of it, and then we don’t even know what his current situation is.
“Regardless of his form, it’s been 7-8 months and he’s only played once since then. So that’s unlucky.
>“If you want to ask, please ask the NCA because this The moon is there and he gets permission from there. Who knows, maybe they removed it too early? asked Gambhir.
India captain Rohit Sharma had earlier said that Iyer’s fitness is 99 per cent.
“Shreyas will not be able to participate in this test match because there are some restrictions on him. Tests. I think it was mostly done today .
“I have to say you’re 99 percent fine right now. But he looked good, he was batting long on and he was fielding and he was down long before we got there.
“I don’t think he’s going to worry us.” said the director.
